A Wednesday is tax free in Maharashtra; grosses Rs 173 mn

MUMBAI: UTV’s A Wednesday has been declared tax free in Maharashtra. A Wednesday released on 5 September and bagged rave reviews.

The movie has so far grossed Rs 173 million (Rs 17.30 crores) in its six weeks run at the box office. The net collections of the movie in its sixth week stood at Rs 6.5 million (Rs 65 lakhs).

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com UTV Motion Pictures vice president distribution (India) Suniel Wadhwa said, "We are proud to associate with A Wednesday and thankful to the Government of Maharashtra for exempting the movie from entertainment duty for six months beginning 17 October. This will give the audience a wider opportunity to watch the movie."

The tax exemption will benefit three circuits namely CP Berar, Bombay and Marathwada.

The film tells a story about a common man who plans a strategy to fight terrorism. A Wednesday is directed by Neeraj Pandey and produced by UTV Motion Pictures, Anjum Rizvi Film Company and A Friday Filmworks. The film stars Naseruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergill, Aamir Bashir, Deepal Shaw.
