Akbar Khan’s Taj Mahal still going strong in Pakistan

Contrary to reports of Akbar Khan’s Taj Mahal – An Eternal Love Story not having done well at the Pakistan box-office, the film is running to packed houses in three of the country’s theatres in its 5th week. Taj Mahal has done record business at the Capri and Cineplex cinemas in Karachi and the Sozoworld theatre complex in Lahore,” informs Pakistani distributor Satish Anand of Eveready Pictures.

“It has not only seen box-office success, but has also been instrumental in the return of bulk audiences in theatres here, which is a very good sign for Indian films in future,” he added. Asked why the previous Indian release Mughal-E-Azam could not attain the same in Pakistan, Anand reasoned that the K. Asif film was released only in one theatre in a single show and without any marketing and publicity.

However, he is happy that Taj Mahal, which received the honor of the first commercial release in Pakistan since the 41-year old ban on Indian films there, has also paved a way for a couple of historicals now being planned in the country.
