Akshay Kumar’s character in Patiala House based on cricketer Monty Singh Panesar’s life

MUMBAI: The buzz doing the rounds is that Akshay Kumar’s character in his forthcoming film, Patiala House, is based on cricketer Monty Singh Panesar’s life.

Panesar is the first Sikh to represent England in cricket and is also a crowd favorite in English Cricket. Like Kumar’s character in the film Panesar too, has a large family in England , his parents having migrated to England from Punjab. In the film Kumar plays a Sikh, Parghat Singh Kahlon who has always dreamt of becoming a pace bowler. Patiala House is a father son drama set in London has all three generations living together under one roof.

However, director Nikhil Advani says, "Every piece of art and creative process is inspired by real life. We did a lot of research on lives of cricketers. But this is not inspired by one person."

Produced by T Series and People Tree, Patiala also stars Anushka Sharma , Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. The film is slated to release on 11 February, 2011.
