Another film on Tarannum on the floor

MUMBAI: After assisting late Sultan Ahmed for 11 years in films like Daata, Jai Vikranta, Naamwala and Ganga Ke Desh; Lucky Raaj will now debut as a director with a film on the controversial bar dancer Tarannum Khan.

The film is titled Tarannum – Ek Paheli and is being produced by Prashant Gangar under the banner of Global Movies. The shooting of the film is 60 per cent complete. Budgeted around Rs 20+ million plus (Rs 2 crore). the lead will be played by newcomer Rakhi Vohra.

Gangar says, “I am into the business of education. The subject of Parvinder Shekhawat induced me to venture into filmmaking. We are neither recreating real characters nor doing a life-story. Being a new maker, I did not have that kind of budget to rope in known actors. But in the supporting cast I have Vivek Shaque, Shahbaaz Khan, Neha Kapur, Rakesh Bedi, Harish Patel, Ali Khan and Mushtaq Khan.”

Raaj says, “Tarannum – Ek Paheli is not based on any one’s life. The story is about girls who come to Bombay with a twinkle in their eye. Our film is about two girls who are smitten by the glamour world and big money. The film has true-life incidents but is laced with commercial values too. We are recording the songs for the film and will commence shooting in November.”

Ravi Pawar, the son of veteran Pt. Kailash Pawar, adds, “We have seven songs. Two are item numbers. I am using live music to make it more melodious. Kailash Kher has rendered the first song penned by Sanjay Mishra.”

Kailash Kher says, “Unless I like the subject and the songs, I do not give my nod for any film. The line goes on like ‘Dukh hai… O Majhia Khete Jaana.'”

Last year a film called Deepa Ka Tarannum was announced. However, they it hasn’t materialised as yet. The film had Preeti Jain in the title role with Aamir Khan’s brother Hyder Ali Khan playing the male lead. After a brief spell, the film faced hiccups with Hyder Ali dropping out.
