MUMBAI: Rowdy Rathore is one of the most enthusiastically awaited films of the year. Akshay Kumar has been working on some of the most back-breaking stunts to ensure that the remake of the Telugu film Vikramarkurdu turns out to be far slicker and riveting than the original.

Little does Akshay know that another remake of the same Telugu film is now being done in another part of India.

Vikramarkurdu is being remade into Bengali as Vikram Sangha with Prosenjeet playing the double role of the cop and the lout.

Unknown to the makers of Rowdy Rathore, Prosenjeet has been shooting the Bengali version of Vikramarkurdu on a war footing. The idea is to get into theatres before Rowdy Rathore in August and to come up with a product comparable with the Hindi remake.

Prosenjeet has just returned from Jordan where he has been shooting some slick action scenes for Vikram Singha.

Says Prosenjeet, “We’re indeed doing a Bengali remake of the same film that Rowdy Rathore has adapted. My film is directed by Rajeev who has helmed  a few big hits in Bengali. It is produced by Eskay Movies.Yes,we hope to complete and release our film before Rowdy Rathore. But please, there’s no war between the two films.”

However a source from Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions points out this is not the first time Prosenjeet has attempted to upstage Bhansali. “In 2002 when Sanjay was directing Devdas Prosenjeet quickly got Shakti Samanta to make a Bengali Devdas and released it before Saanjay Bhansali’s Devdas. Not that it affected Bhansali’s film in any way. Though we were so far unaware of Prosenjeet’s own Rowdy Rathore in Bengali we aren’t the least surprised or perturbed on hearing about it. Rowdy Rathore and Vikram Singha may be sourced to the same Telugu film. But there will be a world of difference between the two remakes.”
