BIG Pictures to release Sikander on 27 March

MUMBAI: BIG Pictures in association with Sudhir Mishra’s production house CineRaas will be releasing the suspense thriller Sikandar on 27 March.

The film stars Parzaan Dastur, Ayesha Kapur along with R. Madhavan, Sanjay Suri and Arunoday Singh. The film has been written and directed by Piyush Jha.

Sikandar is a film about a young boy who has a dream to play football for the National team.

Mishra says, "This is a moving story which is well told in a style of suspense thriller. Sikandar is not a complex film; it’s a simple tale which is not about intensions and messages. In the end it’s a source of entertainment and that’s what you will get. My experience with BIG was very good. It went without any delays and people at BIG were so professional and sensitive to the film. Sikandar is one of the few films that have been shot entirely in Kashmir."

Ayesha Kapur adds, "It was great to work with Parzan, we became good friends. I liked the story and the script a lot. And I thought that I could play the character quite well. Besides it had been quite some time I had done a film so I was very excited to play this role. I was also looking forward to shoot in Kashmir which was so exceptionally beautiful."

BIG Pictures COO Mahesh Ramanathan said, "Sikandar is a first of its kind exploration into the source & antecedents of terrorism. The film is a gripping eye-opener & Piyush has explored a complex subject sensitively. We could not have planned the release of Sikandar at a better time – just after the domestic exam fever is subsiding. The film is sure to attract family audiences. Watch out for the Dhoop Ke Sikkey song, which is one of Prasoon’s most facile pieces of work brilliantly composed by Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy. It’s a potent recipe to go with the holiday mood. Parzan & Ayesha have delivered riveting performances. BIG Pictures is proud to present one of it’s first home productions Sikandar to worldwide audiences."

Director Jha says, "I wanted to attract the masses and reach out to them and make it a relevant cinema. So it’s not a documentary or a boring depiction of Kashmir rather it’s an interesting suspense thriller. The subject is very relevant for both kids and adults. Especially kids as it directly affect them. The young minds today are forced to do things which are not of their understanding. It’s very important to understand why they are lured off from the path of good. So for me it became more important to have kids as protagonists and it’s also important for the parents to see the film and understand their kids better."

The music of the film has been scored by Sandesh Shandiliya, Justin-Uday and Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy and the lyrics are by Prasoon Joshi, Neelesh Misra and Kumaar.
