BIG TV buys Michael Jackson’s concert rights from Sony

MUMBAI: Reliance BIG TV has acquired the rights of Michael Jackson’s Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour concert from Sony Music Entertainment.

The company has signed a four week content agreement with Sony Music Entertainment to showcase Michael Jackson’s concert on its Pay Per View (PPV) service. This is the first non-film premiere on the DTH platform in India.

The concert will be on Reliance BIG TV from 12 July onwards. It can be viewed on Reliance BIG TV’s PPV service for Rs 25.

The Michael Jackson concert is part of Reliance BIG TV’s plan to introduce non-film content on its PPV platform. The company is planning to drive its PPV viewership through differentiated content acquisitions. Michael Jackson’s Live In Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour is a live concert by Michael Jackson in 2005.

The concert took place during Jackson’s first leg on his Dangerous World Tour on 1 October, 1992 at the Bucharest National Stadium, with a sold-out attendance of 170,000. There are various versions of the same concert that exist. The version that will premiere on BIG TV has exclusive footage of Jackson performing at the Bucharest Concert, along with many audience shots from concerts in other locations such as Madrid and Wembley, heavily edited crowd noises. It also includes the We Are The World Interlude.

This concert was the only concert by Jackson that has been released on DVD. Globally, this DVD has sold 950,000 copies worldwide.
