Bollywood art director Samir Chanda passes away

MUMBAI: Bollywood art director Samir Chanda passed away in Mumbai on 18 August, 2011, following a massive cardiac arrest.

Chanda won the National Film Award for best art direction thrice in his career spanning 32 years.

Some of the movies that Chanda worked on are Saat Khoon Maaf, Kaminey, Delhi 6, Rang De Basanti, Omkara, Guru, Aks, Raavan, Kisna, Black & White, Bose The Forgotten Hero, Om Jai Jagdish, Kaalpurush and Yatra, among others.

He was also currently working on Shirish Kunder’s next directorial venture Joker starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. Kunder wrote on Twitter, "RIP Samir Chanda. Was working with him on Joker. We just met last evening to discuss designs for next schedule. Am shocked!"

Chanda began his career in films as a production designer with Subhash Ghai’s Ram Lakhan.
