Mumbai: Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone starrer, Chandni Chowk To China’s opening in India on 16 January is a dull affair.

The morning shows on Friday have opened to an average 50 percent across the country, which by any standard is low for an Akshay Kumar film. What’s more, the paid preview shows on Thursday evening and night also did not run to houseful shows. In Mumbai, the shows had an average occupancy of 50 percent.

Pointing out the reasons for this low opening, multiplex officials say that Chandni Chowk To China has high number of shows, which may have led to lower occupancy level per show.

But going by all past records nothing warrants such a massive drop. Also the Chandni Chowk To China’s promotion and hype are at fault because it is very low, point out various industry professionals.

The buzz doing rounds is that Chandni Chowk To China has a mass appeal and may do better business in single screens as compared to multiplexes.
