David Dhawan to remake Amar Akbar Anthony

While the remake of one Amitabh Bachchan film – Don – is all set to launch later this year; another of his all time yesteryears’ hit Amar Akbar Anthony will also have a remake. Producer and actor Sohail Khan will be remaking Manmohan Desai’s jubilee-hit Amar Akbar Anthony. The film will star the three Khan brothers Arbaaz, Salman and Sohail who will play the role of Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor respectively. The film is being made under the banner of Sohail Khan Productions and will be directed by David Dhawan.

Dhawan will get into the Amar Akbar Anthony mood after he wraps up Partner. “The commitment is signed, sealed and delivered. I will launch Amar Akbar Anthony next year. It is an honour to do a remake of my mentor’s film,” he says. However, he refused to get into the financials. “It’s too early to say. But it will be a big-budgeted movie compared to the costs prevailing in recent times,” he adds.

Presently, Dhawan is all set to move away from the mirthful mood. Says he, “Nowadays everyone is making comedies. In November, I am doing a film for UTV, which is a complete departure from my comedies. It is a feel-good subject written by Renzil d’Silva (who co-wrote Rang De Basanti). The minute I heard it, I knew I had to do it. It takes me into a territory that I have not been to before. “I am looking for a 22 year boy for the lead role,” says Dhawan.
