Disney-ABC & Aksh Optifibre ink movies on demand deal

MUMBAI: Disney-ABC International Television (Asia Pacific) has signed a multi-year video-on-demand (VOD) agreement with IPTV service provider Aksh Optifibre for Disney movies on Aksh’s IPTV service, icontrol.

Prior to this Aksh inked a deal with Sony Pictures to bring Hollywood content to icontrol subscribers.

icontrol subscribers now have access to movies from Walt Disney Pictures, Disney/Pixar, Miramax Films and Touchstone Pictures including Oscar-winner Wall-E in addition to films such as 101 Dalmatians, Armageddon, George of the Jungle and Face Off. The service launched on 1 March, 2009.

The tie up gives subscribers the flexibility to watch Disney movies without any ads at their convenience with bookmarking features at the click of a remote with Rewind / Fast Forward and Pause options, giving subscribers the flexibility to watch a movie in 1 hour or a day, or watch it over a period of a day, as per their wish.

Aksh Optifibre MD Kailash Choudhari said, “With this tie-up, we are delighted to offer our consumers an array of quality movies from the house of Disney. Entering into this agreement with Disney helps us ensure that our icontrol IPTV service has a continuous slate of outstanding movies. We’re enthusiastic to enter this new agreement with one of the greatest brands in the entertainment industry, especially at a time when we’re expanding to reach out to more people.”

“The Indian television and film audience is vast and sophisticated and we see huge growth opportunities in the next 5 to 10 years for new media initiatives. This new deal means that Indian viewers can enjoy more quality Disney entertainment at the touch of their remote,” said Disney-ABC International Television (Asia Pacific) senior vice president and managing director Rob Gilby.

Aksh provides IPTV services in association with MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai and with BSNL for 20 cities in North India.
