Eros International goes into distribution overdrive

MUMBAI: After Namastey London, Eros International plans to take to worldwide distribution in a big way.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Eros International executive president and director India Sunil Lulla says, “Eros will distribute Nanhe Jaisalmer worldwide on 11 May 2007.” The film stars Katrina Kaif and Bobby Deol. The film has been directed by Samir Karnik who debuted in 2004 with Kyun Ho Gaya Na.

“This will be followed by the worldwide release of Cheeni Kum on 25 May 2007,” adds Lulla. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu and Paresh Rawal and has been shot in London, Delhi and Mumbai. Lowe Lintas’ creative director R Balakrishnan has debuted as a director with this film. It is described as a ‘non sexual love story of a 64 year old man and a 34 year old woman.’ The film was earlier scheduled for release in March 2007.

No Smoking will release in July 2007. The film has been co-produced by Eros and Kumar Mangat,” says Lulla. No Smoking stars Ayesha Takia in a double role and John Abraham. The film is directed by Anurag Kashyap, whose Black Friday released earlier in February 2007.

“David Dhawan’s Partner is nearly complete with a week’s shooting left. This film will also be released worldwide by Eros around June or July 2007,” informs Lulla. Partner stars Salman Khan, Govinda, Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta.

Of all Eros’ films released last year, Lulla says Namastey London is the one that has reaped the maximum gains for the company. “The film has grossed Rs 600 million (Rs 60 crore) worldwide in two weeks, and Provoked too has opened to a good response,” he concludes.
