Eros International to back Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladdin

MUMBAI: Writer-director Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladdin, after facing rough weather, is now sailing through safely. After Ramesh and Rohan Sippy, who were producing the film backed by Adlabs pulled out, Ghosh found himself back to square one. Now, it is learnt that Eros International is financing Aladdin.

Ghosh confirms the development without delving into details. “It’s a big film with lots of special effects,” he says. Eros International India president Sunil Lulla was unavailable for his comment.

“The Sippys pulled out because of the budget of Sujoy’s film was shooting up with each passing days, in its pre-production stages. The film has a lot of special effects and now the budget is somewhere around Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crores). The film is now being present by Eros and will mount the sets soon.”

Aladdin features Riteish Deshmukh in the title role of Aladdin Chatterjee; while Amitabh Bachchan plays a genie. Sanjay Dutt will have negative shades in the film. The female cast is under finalization.

Ghosh’s debut venture Jhankaar Beats for Pritish Nandy Communications in 2003 fetched him three awards from Zee in 2004. His last film Home Delivery in 2005 proved to be a cold turkey at the box-office.
