Excel releases Fatih Akin’s The Edge Of Heaven on DVD

MUMBAI: Internationally acclaimed Turkish-German film The Edge Of Heaven will be released on DVD by Excel Home Videos.

Akin, the German filmmaker, best known for making cinema belonging to the genre of ‘between cultures’ (hybrid culture) has made romances, gangster movies, comedies using the background of life between cultures, thus portraying mixed ethnicity effectively as ‘polyphony’ in his movies. Akin’s latest directorial venture The Edge Of Heaven – a cross-cultural story, a compelling examination of German-Turkish relations, which made its worldwide debut at the Cannes Film Festival in France has won the Best Screenplay Award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

The movie also won five awards at Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival (best director, editing, supporting actor, supporting actress and special jury award). On October 24, 2007, the European Parliament awarded its newly established LUX prize for European cinema to Fatih Akin’s film. On 10 November, 2007, the film won the Critics Award at the European Cinema Festival, in Seville and on December, 2007, the movie won the best screenplay award at European Film Awards, while it was also nominated for the best director and the best film.
