Fox and Ravi Chopra case’s next hearing on 29 June

MUMBAI: The next hearing of the case filed by Hollywood studio 20th Century Fox on BR Films will be on 29 June.

As was reported by Businessofcinema.com earlier, Fox had filed a case on BR Films’ Ravi Chopra on the grounds that their film Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai is infringing their copyright and other rights in the film My Cousin Vinny.

The hearing of the case took place yesterday in Mumbai and was adjourned till 29 June. In the interim, BR Films has been asked not to release its film till 30 June.

The Hollywood studio has sought damages for $1.4 million and an injunction against the release of Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai.

20th Century Fox official spokesperson had told Businessofcinema.com a few weeks back that due to the court vacation period, the case had not been heard until now. "But we at Fox have been given liberty to move the vacation court on this suit which we intend to do in the coming days," he had said.

Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai is directed by Ravi Chopra and stars Govinda, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen.

Chopra had received an email from Fox in October 2007, which gave him the permission to Indianise My Cousin Vinny. However, the studio had not parted with the remake rights.
