Mumbai: With the release of Golmaal Returns and Fashion on 29 October, earnings have fashionably returned at the box office.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the two movies ran to 90 and 100 percent occupancies across most multiplex cinemas. Golmaal Returns is houseful across most multiplexes and single screens and Fashion is second to Golmaal Returns. The movie is having a good run in metros.
On Wednesday, Golmaal Returns’ net revenues stood at Rs 65 million (Rs 6.5 crores), which is second only to the all time high of Singh Is Kinng (Rs 80 million) and Fashion’s net collection is at Rs 40.4 million (Rs 4.04 crores).
What’s more, the advance booking of the two movies till Sunday has been encouraging. Fun Cinemas AVP programming Bhumika Tewari says, "At Fun Cinemas 60 percent tickets are already sold out till Sunday in advance booking."
Cinemax senior vice president Devang Sampat adds, "Since the movies are playing in limited shows they are running houseful. From Friday the shows of Golmaal Returns and Fashion will increase and of Heroes and Roadside Romeo will decrease. If Golmaal Returns and Fashion can pull it off till Sunday it will be good business for cinemas."
Despite the average reviews, the opening of the films is really commendable and a major reason for this is the holiday period.
Last Friday’s releases Heroes and Roadside Romeo have taken a beating on Wednesday after the release of Golmaal Returns and Fashion. The films took an average opening last week due to the pre festive period and now the focus has shifted entirely to this week’s releases. On 29 October a few shows of Heroes which had very little or no occupancy were even cancelled.
