Hostel director Manish Gupta goes on anti-ragging road trip

MUMBAI:Writer-director of the forthcoming film Hostel,Manish Gupta has been conducting a road trip through all colleges throughout Mumbai, spreading the message of anti-ragging which is the central theme of the film.

This road trip has covered the following colleges so far – IIT Bombay (Powai), Jai Hind college (Churchgate), Ruia College (Matunga). Lala Lajpat Rai College (Mahalaxmi), Chetna college (Bandra), K.J. Somaiya college (Ghatkopar) and many more. The next in the list are Mithibai college (Vile Parle), National College (Bandra) and others. A total number of 41 colleges across Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur and Nagpur will be covered by this road trip which has also started making a move into Delhi, Dehra Dun and Bangalore.  

Gupta said, “Cinema is a very powerful medium and has an instant connect with the youth. Therefore, I hope to bring about awareness and make a difference.”

The students of each college he visits is shown an anti-ragging video (compiled from clips of the film) and he educates the students about the potential perils of indulging in Ragging. The visit to each college ends with a question and answer or debate session wherein students are allowed to interact with the straight-talking writer-director on a one to one basis and throw queries at him.   

The film is slated to release by end January, 2011.
