Housefull, Iron Man-2 pirated DVDs and CDs seized in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Mumbai Police, along with AA Khan & Associates conducted a raid at Lower Parel station on 6 May, 2010. The team seized close to 3000 pirated DVDs and CDs in the raid and found around 100 DVDs of Iron Man 2, a day prior to its theatrical release in India along with close to 300 pirated discs of last week’s release Housefull starring Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone.

As was reported by Businessofcinema.com, Iron Man 2 was released in 53 international markets one week prior to its North Amercia and India release.

Besides these two films, pirated DVDs of Pathshala and Phoonk 2 were also seized. However, no arrests were made in the raid. The team conducting the raid was led by PI Tangadpalli. AA Khan & Associates have filed the case in SS Branch, VT headed by Sheela Sail, DCP, Enforcement – SS Branch.

Earlier this week, the team had also conducted raid outside Andheri Station (W), where the team seized close to 4000 DVDs. Two arrests were made during the raid and the accused where booked under sections 51, 52(A), 63, 68(A) of Copyright Act along with sections 292A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Khan said, "We, along with the Mumbai Police, are always dedicated to fighting the cause of piracy. Piracy is a serious offence and one which is rampant within major parts of the city. The recent launch of the anti-piracy coalition between Hollywood studios and Hindi studios will help us push this initiative further. People need to remember that besides denying the creators of the content their fair share, the proceeds from such sales fund several illegal activities including terrorism in India and abroad."

In the first quarter of 2010 goods over Rs 5.5 million have been seized and over 50 plus arrests have been made in Mumbai area alone.
