IIFW to lead 100-member team to Cannes

MUMBAI: Independent Indian Filmmakers Worldwide (IIFW) will lead a contingent of 100 people to the 61st Cannes Film Festival to be held from 15 – 26 May.

Members of the IIFW summoned a meeting last evening with members Ketan Mehta, Jag Mundhra, Bhuvan Lall, Rajan Khosa, Krishna Shah and Deepa Sahi amongst many others.

"Our sole purpose for Cannes ’08 is to align funding and distribution for Indian filmmakers. There is a huge demand for Indian products and Indians have the urge to seek the global market; hence we are providing a strong platform where demand can meet supply. It is sensible to go as a team rather than individuals," says Lall.

Last year, the contingent consisted of 40- 50 people. Amongst other initiatives, IIFW is also planning to conduct a few seminars at Cannes and things are likely to materialize in a few days.

The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) will also be participating at Cannes along with IIFW.
