Kabul Express selected for Toronto Film Festival

MUMBAI : Yash Raj Films’ Kabul Express has been officially selected for World premiere at the 31st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This is the largest festival in North America.

Kabul Express stars John Abraham and Arshad Warsi as journalists. The film is set in November 2001, Kabul . Just after 9/11, the Taliban collapsed and journalists were there to capture the event. The film encapsulates a period of 36 hours, and the adventures of five people in Kabul .

Kabir Khan, director, Kabul Express shares his excitement with Businessofcinema.com. He says, “I am honoured. My film has been placed in the ‘artistic and daring cinema from around the world section’. Last year Oscar nominated Caple was placed in this section and this it’s my film.”

When will the film release in India? “I will be having the world premiere at TIFF. Only after I have exploited all potential of the film at such festivals, will I release the film in India but it will definitely be in the month of September.”

The US studios like Warner Bros., 20 th Century Fox, Columbia Tristar, and the distributors will also be present at the festival. This will definitely give the film an immense international exposure. “We can then hope for a great overseas opening for the film”, exclaims Kabir.

This is the first commercial Hindi film to have been selected for the TIFF. Last year Deepa Mehta’s Water was selected at the TIFF. Water starred John Abraham and Lisa Ray. John Abraham seems to be the lucky mascot for TIFF.
