Imtiaz Ali throws open title of Shahid-Kareena film

MUMBAI: Seems a new drift of sorts has been occurring when it comes to zeroing on the title of a film. First it was producer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra who conducted a public poll to finalize the name of the Munnabhai sequel, Lage Raho Munnabhai. Now it’s director Imtiaz Ali and Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision who have come up with a fun contest to decide the title of their film starring Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor.

The audiences will be given three options to choose from. Says Ali, “Actually it was Shahid’s idea. All of us had different considerations about the title and we finally narrowed it down to three but couldn’t decide which one to choose. So, we have decided to involve the audiences to help us choose the right title by casting their votes.”

The first title is Punjab Mail – it signifies a relationship between two strangers (Shahid and Kareena) who meet on a train to Punjab. The second title is Ishq via Bhatinda – since both the characters end up going there because of certain incidents and the third one’s; Jab We Met coined in Hinglish since the youth today is drawn to such titles.

Going by such trends of audience involvement, the day isn’t far when they will even get the onus to settle on the cast, story, director and the works.
