MUMBAI: Madame Tussauds Hong Kong introduced India’s prominent film star – Amitabh Bachchan – for the first time ever in Asia.

On loan for the next four months from Madame Tussauds London, Amitabh Bachchan will take his place at the "World Famous Home of the Famous" at The Peak alongside other movie stars such as Jackie Chan, Johnny Depp, and Angelina Jolie.

Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai general manager Bret Pidgeon said, "Hong Kong is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Indian tourists and we have been fortunate to welcome many tour groups and individual travelers to Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. While these guests enjoy meeting our unique collection of over 100 international celebrities and world leaders, there is a growing demand for us to feature Indian film stars. Bachchan’s entry here today is part of our effort to enhance the guest experience for our Indian visitors."

With more awards than any other Indian actor, a career spanning almost 40 years and over 100 film credits to his name, Bachchan is one of the most legendary figures in the history of Indian cinema.

"We anticipate that Bachchan’s wax figure will be incredibly popular with the Indian community both in Hong Kong and abroad, so we’ll definitely explore a more permanent tribute to the Indian film industry here at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong in the future," Pidgeon added.

Amitabh Bachchan’s wax figure will be on display at World Premiere section at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong until 9 August, 2009.
