MUMBAI: Prannoy Roy’s new entertainment venture NDTV Imagine has now firmed up its movie production plans.
In May this year, NDTV announced the launch of NDTV Imagine, which was poised to spearhead the group’s foray into mass entertainment. Commencing with general entertainment, the company had plans to venture into movies, regional youth and kids programming.
According to information available with Businessofcinema.com, NDTV Imagine is in talks with members of the film fraternity to tie up for co-production deals.
Speaking exclusively to Businessofcinema.com, NDTV Imagine CEO Sameer Nair informs, “We have been in talks with various directors and producers. We are looking at co-producing four to six movies a year. These will only be mainstream commercial flicks.”
Nair further adds, “We will make our official announcement by November or December. Everything will be up and running by January.”
Additionally, the television channel launch is also being planned for January.
When queried about producer – director Karan Johar’s involvement with the movie production, Nair commented, “Well, Karan has his own film production company, which is producing successful films.”
NDTV has a partnership with Johar and his production house Dharma Productions, wherein the latter also holds an equity stake in NDTV Imagine. Johar will be the creative consultant and ambassador of NDTV. Dharma Productions will also be producing shows for the channel.
