Pirated Bollywood DVDs seized in the UK

MUMBAI: In a joint operation with Southall Broadway Police, London Borough of Ealing Trading Standards and the BPI, a search warrant was executed at a private address in Heston and two further related premises searched in Uxbridge Road, Hayes where, collectively, in excess of 125,000 illegally pressed imported DVDs were recovered along with two photocopiers and a vast quantity of printed artwork with a total street value of £1.4 million.

To date, one person has been arrested for importing and distributing these discs which were destined for mainstream retail outlets. This is an important arrest and part of a developing strategy by the BPI in targeting those responsible for importing this illegal product into the UK.

BPI Anti Piracy Manager, David Wood said, “This is a wonderful result and clearly demonstrates the benefit of the Police, Trading Standards and ourselves working in partnership to arrest those responsible for importing illegal discs which has a harmful effect on the Bollywood industry and those who seek to trade in genuine product. We are determined to seek out those offenders and will continue to work closely with all of our partners to achieve this.”
