POGO Awards 2007 nominees declared

MUMBAI: The only televised kids’ awards in India, POGO has announced the nominees of their POGO Amazing Kids Awards 2007 and POGO Voice Awards 2007 that will be televised on 29 December at 6 pm on the channel.

This year, 24 talented kids from across the country will compete for the title of the ‘POGO Amazing Kid’ across eight diverse categories including arts, sports, music, singing, dance, genius, leadership and entertainment! These kids are being profiled on channel POGO starting 19 November.

The Awards has the distinction of being the country’s only televised kids’ awards, and also a unique platform that turns the spotlight on the best talent amongst kids across the country. From the Northern region, the POGO Amazing Kid nominees are Bunty Kumar (POGO Amazing Kid Leader) from Jaipur, Shailendra Verma (Parle G Amazing Kid Genius) from Lucknow, Akash Suri (POGO Amazing Kid Artist) and Rohit Bisht (POGO Amazing Kid Sports Star) from Delhi, Keerat Kullar (POGO Amazing Kid Sports Star) from Amritsar and Anirudh Agarwal (POGO Amazing Kid Musician) from Kanpur, will be contesting.

From South, the short listed nominees are Aiswerya Shankar (Parle G Amazing Kid Genius) from Chennai, Mrinali and Kadambari – the Komandur Twins (POGO Amazing Kid Leader) from Bangalore, Pranati Goturi (POGO Amazing Kid Dancer) and R. Sindhuja (POGO Amazing Kid Dancer) from Hyderabad and Prashant Korada (Big Babol Amazing Kid Entertainer) from Vishakapatnam.< Page Break >

From West, the nominees are Surabhi Tipre (POGO Amazing Kid Sports Star), Pia Sutaria (POGO Amazing Kid Dancer), Zenia Bhumgara (Big Babol Amazing Kid Entertainer), Swini Khara (Big Babol Amazing Kid Entertainer), Raj Pandit (POGO Amazing Kid Musician) and Rohit Patil (POGO Amazing Kid Singer) are from Mumbai. Tanay Joshi (POGO Amazing Kid Musician) is from Ahmedabad and Parth Doshi (POGO Amazing Kid Singer) is from Baroda.

From the Eastern region, the nominees are Chirantan Chowdhury (Parle G Amazing Kid Genius), Protijayee Chatterjee (POGO Amazing Kid Artist),Kovid Dutta Gupta (POGO Amazing Kid Artist),and Arpan Mukherjee (POGO Amazing Kid Singer) are from Kolkata. Kislay Kumar (POGO Amazing Kid Leader) is from Patna.

The entire search and selection process of the final 24 nominees across these categories has been managed by Derek O’Brien & Associates Pvt. Ltd, headed by the quiz master, Derek O’Brien. The winners of the POGO Kids Awards will be felicitated at a gala, in-studio hosted event in Mumbai that will be interspersed with performances. The winners will be awarded with a child benefit policy worth Rs five lakhs each and will get a chance to feature on POGO and win goodies.

The POGO Voice Awards empower children with the right to vote for their favourite celebrity icons. POGO Voice Awards 2007 category nominees include: Hrithik Roshan; Salman Khan; Abhishek Bachchan; Aishwarya Rai and Shahrukh Khan competing for the Most Amazing Super Star, Dhoom 2; Chak De India; Spiderman 3; Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Krishna-in Vrindavan are the final nominees in the Most Amazing Film category, for the Most Amazing Song the nominees are title tracks of Dhoom 2; Jhoom Barabar Jhoom; Chak De India; Partner and Darde Disco from the movie Om Shanti Om.

Competing for the Most Amazing Sports Hero are Sania Mirza (tennis); Vishwanathan Anand (chess); Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh (cricket); and Jeev Milkha Singh (golf). For the Most Amazing Kids Icon, nominees are APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India; Sunita Williams, NASA astronaut; Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Indian cricket team captain; Shaimak Davar, choreographer; J K Rowling, author Harry Potter book series. The nominees in the Most Amazing Kids Programme category are M.A.D. (Music, Art and Dance); Mr. Bean; Galli Galli Sim Sim; Tom and Jerry and Dragon Ball-Z.
