Pyramid Saimira acquires Rajnikanth starrer for Rs 650 mn

Mumbai: Pyramid Saimira Entertainment Limited, Singapore, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pyramid Saimira Group, has bagged the worldwide rights of the Rajinikanth-starrer Kuselan.

Sources inform that the rights have peen picked up for a sum of Rs 650 million (Rs 65 crores). Pyramid Saimira will own the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for a period of 11 years.

Kuselan is the story of friendship between a superstar and an ordinary girl. The film has been made on a budget of Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crore). Pyramid has been inked this deal for both Tamil and Telugu versions. The company plans to release the movie by the end of July 2008. The film is a remake of the highly successful classic Malayalam movie Kadha Parayumbhol.

Pyramid Saimira Group chairman PS Saminathan said, "We are extremely glad to have acquired all rights for Rajnikanth’s forthcoming venture, Kuselan. We hope that Kuselan strikes a perfect chord with the audience, as have most of his films, in the past."

Pyramid Saimira had earlier distributed/exhibited Sivaji in Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Malaysia with 252 screens, 928 shows daily and 6.78 lakh seats and earned considerable collections. Pyramid Saimira distributes almost eight films a month on an average in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and many other languages.

Kuselan is being produced by Kavithalaya and Seven Arts Films in Tamil and Vyjanthi Movies and Seven Arts Films in Telugu. The film also stars Pasupathy, Meena, Nayantara, and Vadivel in Tamil and Jagapathy, Babu, Sunil, Meena and Nayantara in Telugu.
