MUMBAI: With just a day more to go for its release, the advance booking of Mani Ratnam’s Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer, Raavan is picking up brisk pace.

The booking opened on Wednesday, 16 June and has has so far seen an average of 50% off counter sales.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Fun Cinemas CEO Vishal Kapur said, “We are looking forward to Raavan, there is a lot of excitement about the film. The bulk and advance bookings have done very well and I think the weekend is going to be good.”

However, Cinemax India president – marketing and operations Devang Sampat opined, “Even though the corporate bookings for Raavan have been good, we can’t say much about the advance booking of Raavan or any other film because advance bookings have been average even during 3 Idiots for that matter. However, we have done proper showcasing for the film and the hype is huge. If the film does well, Raavan can improve the numbers of the first quarter of 2010. The opening weekend should see close to 70 – 75 per cent occupancy.”

BIG Cinemas COO (South & West) Ashish Saksena said, “The response to the advance booking of Raavan has been great with an average of 50 per cent sales, while the cinemas in key locations did a sale of about 70 per cent.”

Inox Leisure CEO Alok Tandon informed, “The advance booking of Raavan is doing very well. There is a lot of demand for the tickets and around 45 – 50 per cent tickets have already gone.”

Rajneeti, on the other hand, is still going strong in its second week. Multiplex officials are of the opinion that the movie should sustain over the third week as well. With Rajneeti’s steady performance and the hype around Raavan, looks like the film industry can look forward to another good weekend.
