Rajshri to remake Tapasya; casts Bobby

MUMBAI: Rajshri Productions is back with its conventional family drama. The new film will be a remake of their earlier film Tapasya starring Parikshit Sahni and Rakhee Gulzar.

Tapasya was one of the super hits in the 1970s and had also received a National Award for the best feature film. The story revolved around womanhood and the ancient culture of India.

Rajshri has roped in Bobby Deol to play the lead in the film. Deol has been recently seen in movies like Apne, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Naqaab. A source close to the production house says, “Sooraj Barjatya feels Bobby’s acting potential has not been explored and he will certainly suit the role.”

Though the female protagonist has not been finalised as yet, sources inform Businessofcinema.com that Vidya Balan is being considered for the role.

However, when contacted Rajshri Productions’ Kamal Kumar Barjatya denied that their next project was a remake. “Our next film is a new script altogether. We are considering a number of productions but Sooraj won’t be directing any. He will be supervising other directors, because if we come up with a few projects, he won’t be able to concentrate on one.”

Barjatya also refused to comment on the star cast saying, “It’s too early to divulge any information.”
