MUMBAI: Reliance BIG Pictures COO – film distribution and BIGFlix COO Kamal Gianchandani has put in his papers at the company.
He is slated to join PVR Pictures as CEO and will be replacing Uday Singh, who had resigned from the post in December last year.
It may be recalled that prior to joining Reliance in 2006, Gianchandani was with PVR Pictures as COO for a period of almost five years. As per information available, in his new role as CEO, Gianchandani will report to PVR managing director Ajay Bijli for the day-to-day workings and to the company’s Board for the overall business.
Sources inform Businessofcinema.com that Gianchandani will be with Reliance BIG Pictures till the release of Mani Ratnam’s Raavan starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The movie is slated to release worldwide on 18 June. Prior to that Gianchandani will also be spearheading the distribution and release strategy of the Hrithik Roshan – Barbara Mori starrer Kites, which is slated for release on 21 May.
When contacted by Businessofcinema.com, Gianchandani declined to comment.
As Businessofcinema.com had reported last week, a handful of top executives namely Jawahar Sharma and Gayathiri Batra from Reliance BIG Pictures’ international distribution division recently quit the company. Late last year also saw the departure of Reliance BIG Entertainment COO Sunir Khetrapal and Reliance BIG Pictures chief marketing officer Saurabh Varma. Now with Gianchandani joining PVR Pictures, another key member of the Reliance BIG Pictures team has decided to move on.
