Rs 100 million sequel to My Friend Ganesha

MUMBAI: Even before the release of the animation movie My Friend Ganesha, the film’s makers – Koffee Break Productions – have planned a sequel to it. Titled Ganesha Rocks New York the film is scheduled to go on floors in New York by July end or early August this year.


Confirming the same to Businessofcinema.com, Koffee Break Productions managing director Apoorva Shah says, “Yes we are planning a sequel to My Friend Ganesha. Currently the scripting and casting is underway. Ahsaas Channa will definitely be part of the film, we are still looking at finalizing the remaining cast.”


While My Friend Ganesha, a live character animation movie has been made on a budget of Rs 40 million (Rs 4 crore), the scale of Ganesha Rocks New York will be bigger. “It will be made on a budget of Rs 100 million (Rs 10 crore) and the quality will be 10 times better. Also the character of Ganesha will undergo some changes in terms of look and costume to suit the New York setting.”


The animation for Ganesha Rocks New York will continue to be worked upon at Radiant Animation, which also worked on My Friend Ganesha.


“The response towards Ganesha’s character has been stupendous and we are confident that people will like the product in the future as well,” Shah concludes.


My Friend Ganesha hits theatres across India this Friday – 6 July, 2007.
