Singer Bhupinder Singh is back

MUMBAI: After almost a decade, singer Bhupinder Singh is back and how! Shamir Tandon who is known to record legends like Lata Mangeshkar (in Page 3), Asha Bhosle (Corporate), Living legand Mannada and Jagjit Singh (Umar), now receives this voice that gave some of he best songs in the Gulzar-RD era.

Says Shamir, “I am very blessed that I am getting subjects where I can use these voices and do justice to them. We have used Bhupiji not only for Vinod Pande’s Red Swastik but also for Madhur Bhandarkar’s Traffic Signal. The songs are talyor-made for them and make us reminiscent of the 70s and early 80s when Bhupiji was a rage. Red Swastik track is called ‘Yeh Jo Tera Shehar Hai Ajeeb Shehar’ is penned by Vinod Pande who is also the producer-director of this psycho-thriller Red Swastik.”

The Traffic Signal track is called ‘Na Jis Din Teri Meri Baat Hoti Hia’ and is written by lyricist Sameer. The music for both these films are to be released around November-December. The new generation has been bereft of this voice that has sung evergreen songs like ‘Kisi Nazar Ko Ter Intezaar Aaj Bhi Hai’ from Aitbaar, ‘Naam Gum Jaayega’ from Kinara, ‘Dil Dhoondta Hai’ from Mausam, ‘Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukammal Jahan Nahi Milta’, ‘Aaj Bhichde Hai’ from Thodi Si Bewafai among others.

“Both these films are non-musical but the directors are very sensitive and have found a place for good music. The songs have a melodious component, rich lyrical value and a lot live instrumentation that sets them apart from the hot dance songs that play these days. This is our way of paying a tribute to these legendary voices that are so rare to hear these days. We are confident that the youth today will love this too and will be a breath of fresh air for them. Bhupiji also is very excited about returning to Bollywood in respectable films and people who have faith in his unique voice and style,” he added.
