Sony Pictures lines up 15+ movies from October – July

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures is gearing up with its films that are lined up for release starting October, 2009.

The first one to release is a children’s film titled Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (IMAX 3D) directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The film stars Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Andy Samberg, Mr. T, James Caan and Tracy Morgan.Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a comedy about Flint Lockwood, a misunderstood and quirky inventor who creates a machine that causes food to rain from the sky. The film is slated to release on 2 October, 2009.

16 October, 2009 will see the release of Julie & Julia which is a drama directed by Nora Ephron. The film stars Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci and Chris Messina. The film is a story about Julie Powell (Amy Adams) who is about to turn 30 when she realizes her life is in the dumps. In search of direction, Julie set her sights on a new desire, cooking all 524 recipes from legendary cook Julia Child’s (Meryl Streep) Mastering the Art of French Cooking cookbook in the span of one year while spending each available night blogging about the experience to her new widely growing circle of cyber-friends.

This will be followed by the late pop star Michael Jackson’s This is It on 28 October, 2009. This Is It is a non-fiction directed by Kenny Ortega, starring Michael Jackson. The film is a behind-the-scenes look at Michael Jackson the performer, his career, and the stage spectacular that would have been. The film is compiled from hundreds of hours of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage, captured in high definition with state-of-the-art digital sound as the late singer was preparing for This Is It, the series of fifty concerts he planned to present at the O2 Arena in London. It will also offer select sequences in 3-D, will provide a unique career retrospective and feature interviews with some of Jackson’s closest friends and creative collaborators. This Is It will play in theaters for 2 weeks only.

2012 (in Hindi as 2012: Pralay ki Shuruaat) is an action, adventure film that will release on 13 November, 2009. Directed by Roland Emmerich , the film stars: John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Thomas McCarthy, Woody Harrelson, Danny Glover, Oliver Platt, and Thandie Newton.The film is about a  team of scientists  who confirm to the global heads of state that the world as we know it, will soon come to an end. By 2012, a plan has been devised by world leaders to save as much of mankind as possible.

4 December, 2009 brings in The Stepfather  which is a suspense thriller directed by Nelson McCormick. The film stars Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward, Penn Badgley, Amber Heard and Jon Tenney. Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh).  As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand.

The first day of the New Year will see the release of the comedy movie, Zombieland. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the film releases on releases on 1January,2010. Starring: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, the film deals with two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies.

This will be followed by a romantic comedy Did You Hear About the Morgans?, which releases on 22 January,2010. Directed by Marc Lawrence, the film stars Hugh Grant, Sarah-Jessica Parker and Sam Elliott. The film is about an estranged couple who witness a murder and are relocated to small-town Wyoming as part of a witness-protection.

Armored Action releases on 5 February,2010. The thriller is directed by Nimrod Antal and stars Matt Dillon, Jean Reno, Laurence Fishburne, Skeet Ulrich and Columbus Short. A crew of officers at an armored transport security firm risk their lives when they embark on the ultimate heist against their own company. Armed with a seemingly fool-proof plan, the men plan on making off with a fortune with harm to none. But when an unexpected witness interferes, the plan quickly unravels and all bets are off.

The Book of EliAction hits theaters on 19 February,2010. An adventure film directed byAlbert Hughes & Allan Hughes starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis. The film deals with a post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone (Denzel Washington) man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.

Takers (aka Bone Deep) an action crime film is slated to release on 5 March, 2010. Directed by John Luessenhop, the film stars Hayden Christensen, Paul Walker, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, Matt Dillon, Chris Brown, Michael Ealy, Tip "T.I." Harris and Jay Hernandez. A notorious group of criminals (Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I., Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Michael Ealy) continue to baffle police by pulling off perfectly executed bank robberies. But when they attempt to pull off one last job with more money at stake than ever before, the crew may find their plans interrupted by a hardened detective (Matt Dillon) who is hell-bent on solving the case.

Another romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan releases on 19 March, 2010. The film is directed by Alan Poul and stars Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin. The film is about Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) who is determined to become a mother, she conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams Stan (Alex O’Loughlin) on the very same day.

Legion Fantasy is a thriller that is slated to release on 2 April, 2010. Directed by Scott Stewart, the film stars Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Adriana Palicki, Charles S Dutton, Jon Tenney, Kevin Durand, Willa Holland with Kate Walsh & Dennis Quaid.The film deals with a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner and the archangel Michael (Paul Bettany). The Crowley Project releases on 7 May, 2010. The film is a drama directed by Tom Vaughan and stars Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser, Keri Russell, Jared Harris and Dee Wallace. A drama centered on the efforts of John (Brendan Fraser) and Aileen Crowley (Keri Russel) to find a researcher (Harrison Ford) who might have a cure for their two children’s rare genetic disorder.

Comedy film Death at a Funeral will hit the theaters on 4 June, 2010. Directed by Neil LaBute, the film is about a funeral ceremony that turns into a debacle of exposed family secrets and misplaced bodies. The film stars James Marsden, Zoe Saldana, Luke Wilson, Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock and Danny Glover.

Jackie Chan fans can catch him in a remake of the classic Karate Kid on 11 June, 2010. Karate Kid stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Jackie Chan plays the mentor and Jaden Smith his protegee. The film is directed by Harald Zwart.

The Green Hornet directed by Michel Gondry releases on 9 July, 2010 . The film stars Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou. The classic character of film, television, radio, and comic books returns to the big screen in The Green Hornet. The film is based upon The Green Hornet radio series created by George W. Trendle, and produced by Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious).

The last on the list of films is Salt, which releases on 23 July, 2010. The film is a thriller directed by Philip Noyce, starring Angelina Jolie and Liev Schreiber. The film is about a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture, protect her husband, and stay one step ahead of her colleagues at the CIA.
