SRK’s Red Chillies Idiot Box pays tribute to Michael Jackson

MUMBAI: The coroners and investigative sources may have just declared Michael Jackson’s death to be a homicide, but to millions of his fans, the loss is huge. On the eve of his 51st birthday, Red Chillies Idiot Box paid a tribute to Michael Jackson by getting the Indian film industry to come forward and contribute by creating a special single on the occasion.

Director of films like Kuch Meetha Ho Jaye and Shaurya, Samar Khan has directed the video that has actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Kangna Ranaut come forward to record a message for what they thought of the actor.

The single has been composed by Vishal Shekhar and sung by Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Kay Kay and Shankar Mahadevan. Prabhudeva flew in from Chennai to dance in the video under the guidance of choreographer, Remo.

Samar Khan said, "Michael Jackson has had a huge impact on our lives and his music was known to us. Our current generation of actors have danced to his numbers and have aped his steps. It is a gesture from Red Chillies Idiot Box to say something about the loss we feel."

Shahid said, "To get the steps of moonwalking right, I used to put powder on the floor and rehearse for hours."

Hrithik reminisced about his music and said, "I specially love the lyrics of Man in the Mirror. I think they spoke a lot of what Michael was behind the façade of a superstar."

Kangana and Priyanka both admitted, "We got to know of international music because of him. Billie Jean was the first that we heard and thereafter we got to love more of his music."

Anushka adds, "I first heard Heal the World as we had to perform on that number. Since we loved the song, our whole gang started listening to more of MJ’s songs."

The video is available for free downloads from the Red Chillies website and what is commendable is that nobody charged any remuneration for doing it.
