Star acquires Awarapan for Rs 40 million

MUMBAI: After acquiring the satellite rights of White Feather Films and Balaji Motion Pictures co-production, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Star has acquired the satellite rights of the recently released Vishesh Film’s production Awarapan.


Confirming the news to Businessofcinema.com, Star Gold head of acquisition Sameer Rao says, “After acquiring the satellite rights for Shootout at Lokhandwala, we have recently bought the satellite rights for Awarapan as well. We are planning to acquire more films in the future.”


However Rao refused to comment on the cost of the acquisition. However industry sources say that the deal has been struck at Rs 40 million (Rs 4 crores).


The acquisition war between the movie channels is witnessing fierce competition and the outfall has been the sky rocketing prices, which is a welcome development for the producers and distributors of films.
