Taare Zameen Par goes tax free in Haryana

MUMBAI: The Haryana government has exempted Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par from payment of entertainment tax for 12 weeks in the state.

Excise and Taxation minister Birender Singh said that the film deals with a sensitive social problem about children, which requires urgent attention of the society.

The movie stars Aamir along with Darsheel Safari and Tisca Chopra amongst others. “Taare Zameen Par portrayed the issue beautifully and tries to educate parents and teachers on how to take care of children so that they can grow into useful members of society with self esteem,” Singh said.

He added that exempting the film from payment of entertainment tax would help both students and teachers to understand the psychology of children.

The State government will have to bear a loss of Rs 1.5 million (Rs 15 lakhs) due to exemption of entertain tax on this movie.
