‘The Hindi film industry is very dependent on an A list star’ – Konkana Sen Sharma

The talented actress Konkana Sen Sharma, who has won two National Awards, feels that our Hindi film industry is too dependent on a star.

She feels producers and financers are ready to put in money only if there is an A list star in the film. Sharma says, "If only there is an A list star like a Shan Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan or Akshay Kumar are the producers or financers ready to shell out money for a film."

Sharma, whose last film release was Mirch, feels that all kinds of films should be made or rather given a fair chance. She says, "There is no space for us in the industry, there are very few people who want to invest their money in our kind of films and I feel that they are missing out on a lot of talent."

Sharma played two characters in the Mirch, which was a film about a filmmaker. She essayed the role of an adulterous woman in the film. She says, "Mirch was about a filmmaker who makes arty type of films and is asked by his producer to make a masala film, since no one watches art films these days. He then goes on to make four films, which deal with adultery. I play two of the adulteresses, while Rima Sen plays the other two. The film deals with adultery with a lot of humor."

Sharma has not signed any more films since she is expecting her first baby soon. However, she will be seen in a cameo in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf starring Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh amongst others. "I am reading a lot of scripts at the moment and I should be back to work by the second half of 2011," adds Sharma.
