Toonz & Spectra Animation ink $ 7 million deal for TV series

MUMBAI: Toonz Animation India and Canada based Spectra Animation Inc have entered into an agreement to co-produce 52 episodes of a preschool animated TV series christened Paddy’s Pages. The budget estimate is ball parked at $ 7 million to be jointly financed by both the parties. Paddy’s Pages was an official selection to the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival 2007.

Paddy’s Pages chronicles the adventures of a 6 year old, who is fond of reading books. One day Paddy finds a BIG book that had a large number of stories except that the stories did not have endings. Problems in the book will parallel Paddy’s life in the real world, and the solutions he discovers with his storybook friends will help Paddy solve his own problems.

The concept for Paddy’s Pages has been conceived by Toonz Animation senior designer and concept artist K.P.Muraleedharan, who has won awards and appreciation for his works at major film festivals across the globe.

“Paddy is a typical child of today, always inquisitive and has an unbridled hunger for knowledge. It is impossible to visualize the imagination of a child when he reads a book, Paddy’s Pages is an honest effort to portray that,” said Muraleedharan.

Muraleedharan’s concept was further developed by the team at Spectra Animation. The design team in Canada is led by Raymond Lebrun, who is the director of the preschool series Toopy and Binoo.

“It is a momentous occasion for us. Paddy’s Pages is recognition of our talents. It is a local product perfected for the world to enjoy. We aim to take the series to the masses by early 2011,” added Toonz Animation CEO P. Jayakumar.

“Paddy’s Pages is yet another testament of our dedication to bringing quality series to preschoolers around the world,” said Spectra Animation Inc president and executive producer André A. Bélanger.
