UTV Motion Pictures lines up five Tamil and Telugu films

MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has lined up a slate of five films in the Tamil and Telugu languages.

These movies are currently being developed under a separate film development and production arm called UTV Rampage Motion Pictures, which is headed by Ram Mirchandani.

The first film to release will be the Tamil remake of Khosla Ka Ghosla called Poi Solla Poram, which is a co-production with Four Frames and presented by Priyadarshan. The movie directed by Vijay Anand (Kireedam fame) is slated for release on 12 September with around 54 prints across Tamil Nadu.

"The best and most original stories are told in the South. We plan to collaborate with key talent in the South market and build a slate of great movies in the next few years," said Mirchandani.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com about the new arm UTV Rampage Motion Pictures, Mirchandani said, "These films are being developed under UTV Rampage Motion Pictures. Going forward the banner will evolve in itself and will operate as a banner like UTV Spotboy under the UTV umbrella. We will be looking at making regional and Hindi language films under Rampage."

UTV Motion Pictures has a slate of one Telugu and four Tamil films under production. The company has signed Tamil actors like Vikram and Suriya for its forthcoming films. Suriya will star in an action film titled Mugammoodi, which will be directed by Mysskin, who has also directed the Tamil film Anjadhe. The film with Vikram is slated to go on floors in May 2009.

Director Selvaraghavan is also on board to creatively produce a film, which is likely to star his brother Dhanush. Another film titled Lost in Chennai will be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and is likely to star Taare Zameen Par child actor Darsheel Safary.

UTV’s Telugu film with actor Mahesh Babu, which will be directed by Gautham Menon, will go on floors in January 2009.
