UTV Spotboy CCO Vikas Bahl quits; to launch production house

MUMBAI: UTV Spotboy chief creative officer (CCO) Vikas Bahl has put in his papers at the company. Bahl plans to launch his own production company.

Bahl, who joined UTV as EVP in 2007, has co-directed a film called Chillar Party along with Nitesh Tiwari for UTV Spotboy. The film is slated to release on 29 April, 2011.

Prior to joining UTV Spotboy, Bahl was Sab TV business head. Speaking exclusively to Businessofcinema.com, Bahl said, “Yes it is true that I’ve quit UTV. I want to start my own production house.”

There is also buzz doing the rounds that Bahl along with Madhu Mantena, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane will be co-producing a film. However, Bahl said, “At this moment we are just in the planning stages and haven’t finalized anything. We just have plans to make or co-produce a film together. Among the first few movies that I plan to make under my banner, Madhu’s film will be one of them.”

When contacted by Businessofcinema.com, Mantena informs, “It’s too premature to talk about the film since we haven’t locked the script right now. We are just in the planning stage but all I can say is yes, we are talking about doing a film together.”

Bahl plans to make the kind of films that were being made under the UTV Spotboy banner. He says, “I will be making the kind of films I have been making like the new age cinema, which works with the audience.”
