UTV to re-release Rang De Basanti on 26 January

UTV Motion Pictures is known to do things a tad differently. One such recent example is when the Bollywood production house spent close to Rs 20 million (Rs 2 crores) on marketing a film like Khosla Ka Ghosla, which was made on a budget of Rs 35 million (Rs 3.5 crores).

Now, on the occasion of the first anniversary release of Rang De Basanti (26 January), UTV will be re-releasing the film theatrically. The film will open in select theatres across the country with 25 prints.

“This is for the first time that a film is being re-released one year after it hit the theatres. The film will run for a period of one week in select theatres across the country,” informs UTV senior vice president marketing and communications Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Ever since its release on 26 January, 2006, Rang De Basanti, directed by Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra, has been in the news for all the right reasons. The film is India’s official entry to the Oscars this year and has also been nominated for the BAFTA awards, both of which are scheduled to be held next month.
