Viacom 18 Group COO Rajesh Kamat quits; to join Chernin’s CA Media

MUMBAI: Viacom 18 Group COO and Colors CEO Rajesh Kamat has put in his papers at the organisation.
Kamat is slated to join CA Media as India CEO. CA Media backed by ex-News Corp COO Peter Chernin.
Chernin’s company The Chernin Group launched CA Media in November last year. The company was put up to strategically build, manage and operate media, entertainment and technology businesses across the APAC.
Kamat has been with Viacom18 for more than three years and was instrumental in launching the company’s Hindi general entertainment channel Colors. 
“Rajesh has played a significant part in extending and establishing Viacom18’s strong footprint in the general entertainment category. As he now moves on to a new challenge in a new role and domain, I wish him luck for his continued success," said Viacom 18 Group CEO Haresh Chawla.
“My assignment with Viacom18 has been one of my most challenging as well as gratifying periods of my professional career. Indian media and entertainment domain is bustling with developments that portend an exciting future and my next assignment with CA Media will give me the opportunity to create a blueprint for leveraging and monetizing such opportunities,” said Kamat.
A replacement for Kamat has not yet been announced. However, in the iterim, Colors management will report to Chawla. Kamat is slated to leave Viacom 18 in June.
 
CA Media was launched with an aim to capitalise on the growth characteristics of these markets such as China, India, and Indonesia. The company plans to explore opportunities in content creation (specifically, film and TV production), TV networks, sports, education, advertising and digital media. CA Media also had plans to team up with local entrepreneurs, strategic partners, and financing sources to launch new enterprises.
