Yash Raj Films gears up to release five movies in 2008

Mumbai: Yash Raj Films has announced five new releases for 2008 from different genres, with a variety of star cast.

Tashan, to be released on 25 April, is the directorial debut of Vijay Krishna Acharya, the scriptwriter of Dhoom and Dhoom:2. It is the intriguing story of an irreverent call center executive, a desi wannabe gangster, a beautiful femme fatale and a murderous gangster who loves nothing more than to kill people and practice his English. The star cast includes Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.

On 27 June will release Kunal Kohli’s latest offering after the box office blockbusters Hum Tum and Fanaa. So far untitled, the film stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji.

Bachna Ae Haseeno releases on 15 August, Independence Day. This is the third film from Siddharth Anand. It stars Ranbir Kapoor as the carefree alpha male and the relationships he has with the three women in his life. Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone are the female leads.

Yash Raj Films’ first full-length animated feature film, co-produced with Walt Disney Pictures, will release on 24 October. Titled Roadside Romeo, it spins the tale of a rich, cool, spoilt brat of a dog who is abandoned on the streets and now needs to fend with problems the likes of which he has never faced before. It features the voices of Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Jaaved Jaaferi and utilizes state-of-the-art computer animation done entirely in India. The film has been written and directed by Jugal Hansraj.

The last Yash Raj release of the year will be Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi on 12 December. With the film, Aditya Chopra will be back as director for the first time in eight years. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan.
