Yash Raj to offer digital video downloads

MUMBAI: After securing the distribution front of its movies and music, Yash Raj Films has recently launched its own DRM (Digital Rights Management) platform.


Through this platform, the entire audio catalogue of YRF titles, will be made available for digital downloads for a fee. The platform enables listeners to either download the entire soundtrack or select songs they wish to own.


Apart from offering only audio tracks, plans are underway to make the videos of these songs downloadable as well. This platform is scheduled to launch on the June 15 2007, clashing with the theatrical release of its latest film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.


Exclusive video songs of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chak De India and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom will be some of the initial videos that will be made available. These audios will require a license to play on the computer, which is facilitated with Windows DRM technology.


The announcement comes just after the company inked a joint venture with media conglomerate Walt Disney Studios to create a series of original computer-animated feature films.
