YRF’s Kabhi Kabhie dubbed in Bhojpuri

MUMBAI: Yash Chopra’s 1976 film Kabhi Kabhie, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, Rishi Kapoor, Rakhee and Neetu Singh has now been dubbed in Bhojpuri.

Sources say the dubbed version is not been screened in theatres but is available on VCDs which are easily available in Delhi, Uttar Prades and Bihar, where the Bhojpuri language is spoken. Cable channel owners say the film is also being telecast on cable channels at a premium fee.

Only the film’s dialogue has been dubbed by professional artistes from Noida within a short span of time. Such films are dubbed informally at a cost of around Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000, it is learnt. Each artiste gets paid around Rs 5,000 per film, and six titles are thus brought out every month.

While the dubbing of a film in any format is illegal as the rights lie with the home video right owners, several films like Don, Bunty Aur Babli, Krrish, Dhoom, Rang De Basanti and others are being currently dubbed into Bhojpuri, it is learnt.
