SAIFTA: Bollywood Heads To South Africa

John Abraham, Sanjay Gupta along with Waheeda Rehman unveiled the South Africa Indian Film And Television Awards (SAIFTA) to be held in Durban in September.

MUMBAI: After the scintillating IIFA Awards at Macau last week, Bollywood is set to head to Durban, South Africa for the first ever SAIFTA – South Africa Indian Film And Television Awards.

At a suburban hotel in Mumbai, the event was unveiled with several Bollywood stars gracing the event. It included the likes of John Abraham, Suniel Shetty, Manoj Bajpayee, the legendary Waheeda Rehman, directors Sanjay Gupta and Apoorva Lakhia and Mukhesh Bhatt of Vishesh Films.

SAIFTA is a celebration of the association between South Africa and Bollywood and will be held on the 6 September 2013 at Durban. Saif Ali Khan has been confirmed to host the event.

The biggest icing on the cake however comes that, Sanjay Gupta and Apoorva Lakhia’s ‘Shootout’ series – ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ and ‘Shootout at Wadala’ will be screened for the audiences.

“We are happy that both our films will be screened at SAIFTA. They are unique films. Students there will want to know about filmmaking. Both these films are real-life entertaining stories and it will be a great experience for all,” said Sanjay Gupta during the curtain raiser of the event.

Waheeda Rehman, Mukesh Bhatt, Boman Irani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farah Khan will be the panelists for the awards.

India and South Africa has shared an emotional relationship, thanks to Mahatma Gandhi. But looks like it is going to reach great heights with SAIFTA kickstarting in September. From IIFA to SAIFTA, let the awards begin!
