MUMBAI: Abhinav Kashyap, the director of ‘Besharam’, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, says his lead actor was bold enough to portray the shameless character on screen.
Ranbir has proved his mettle with diverse roles, and his upcoming film’s director is confident enough that Ranbir can pull off an orphaned mechanic, who is spontaneous and shameless in equal parts. Not only that, he even feels Ranbir was the perfect choice for the role and that he had full faith in him.
Said Kashyap, speaking of his talented lead actor: “I needed someone who doesn’t take himself too seriously. The title of my movie is ‘Besharam’, because Babli is shameless. Ranbir is bold enough to laugh at himself. I always knew that about him. He is fairly detached and I needed that quality in my actor. Even before Ranbir did ‘Rockstar’, I had full faith in him. Now, I am just letting everyone else do the talking. Also, his great run at the the Box Office is working to my advantage.”
After working with superstar Salman Khan in his debut film ‘Dabangg’ in 2010, Abhinav now has golden boy Ranbir in his film. Does he feel the pressure? “No, pressure is good. I like people to have expectations from me. That will only push me to perform better. When people say I have been lucky to have Ranbir in my second film after Salman, I agree. It isn’t a high for me, but I say, I am lucky to be lucky as well,” said Abhinav.
Produced by Reliance Entertainment, ‘Besharam’ is all set to roll into theatres on 2 October.
