When Bollywood Fell In Love With Cricket

It is the latter which make for amusing read as to how two important recreational activities of this nation coalesce. Here are some of the Bollywood-cricket romances.

1. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore

It was love at first sight for Pataudi but not for Sharmila Tagore. She shunned his approaches and proposals for a long time but the Nawab was persistent. He kept on trying to woo Tagore by sending gifts and roses and one day, she relented. Their marriage was hugely opposed by their families but they went ahead any way.

2. Imran Khan and Zeenat Aman

Imran Khan, the good-looking cricketer from across border, caught lovely lady Zeenat Aman’s fancy. Their affair created a huge uproar among the media. But things didn’t work out and Imran went on to marry British socialiste Jemimah Khan.

3. Vivian Richards and Neena Gupta

It was a torrid affair between the West Indies cricketer and Neena Gupta which even produced a baby named Masaba who presently has a fashion line on her name. They had a very brief affair which couldn’t culminate into marriage.

4. Yuvraj Singh and Kim Sharma

A young cricketer Yuvraj Singh fell for the charms of the lady Kim Sharma and they became the talk of the town. But Yuvraj’s mother didn’t quite approve of Kim’s lifestyle and the two parted ways.

5. Yuvraj Singh and Deepika Padukone

Yuvraj Singh again fell for the charms of Bollywood actress and this time it was Deepika Padukone. But the latter decided to switch to Ranbir Kapoor. Apparently, she dumped him unceremoniously.

6. Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra

Though none of them accepted the relationship in public, there are reports that Harbhajan and Geeta are dating each other. There were rumours of their split but it seems they were hoax as they are still together.

7. Isha Sharvani and Zaheer Khan

Zaheer Khan took fancy of Isha Sharvani and they reportedly dated for a few years. Isha even admitted that they were together for four years but later broke up. According to rumours, their careers affected their relationship and they couldn’t take the toll.

8. Amrita Singh And Ravi Shastri

Ex-cricketer and a famous name on the cricket grounds Ravi Shatri confessed his love in the late 80s to the then to-be actress Amrita Singh publicly. Their love story ended in unsuccessful marriages: Amrita with the nawab Saif Ali Khan, and Ravi with Ritu Singh.

9. Virat Kohli And Anushka Sharma

Even though the couple has rubbished the media reports, we have proof that both have been spotted at different places, holding hands and making out time for each other despite their busy schedules.

10. Yuvraj Singh And Deepika Padukone

Yuvraj Singh starting dating Deepika Padukone after breaking up with his steady girlfriend Kim Sharma. Deepika was also on the verge of becoming a bollywood actress. Soon after, they broke up, supposedly because of Yuvraj‘s over-posessiveness, after which Deepika started dating Ranbir and the rest is history.

11. Saurav Ganguly And Nagma

South Indian actress Nagma and cricketer Saurav Ganguly dated for 2 years and were in quite a serious relationship, as they have been known to go to a temple to work on correcting the former’s astrological issues. However, the relationship ended, apparently because Saurav‘s career was at stake because of the relationship.

12. Sangita Bijlani And Mohammad Azharuddin

Sangita and Azharudin‘s affair was quite a grand affair, after all that they got married and divorced, inspire of the latter having a wife of his own, and the former divorcing him over an alleged another affair!

13. Virat Kohli And Izabelle Leite

Izabelle came to Mumbai to make a career in bollywood, and as they say loneliness makes you feel the sparks around. She then met Virat Kohli and dated him for 2 years, after which Kohli is now seen with actress Anushka Sharma.

14. Mohsin Khan And Rina Roy

The two started dating during the 1980s when Reena herself was a fabulous Hindi Bollywood film star whilst her would-be partner, Mohsin Khan, was a very famous cricketer belonging to the Pakistani cricket team. They both risked their careers, Mohsin became a small time Pakistani actor and Rina Roy was hardly to be seen again as a famous actress.
