MUMBAI: Bollywood actress and international music sensation Priyanka Chopra’s day just got a whole lot better. The multi faceted actress and songstress has received her first ever nomination for a music awards.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Priyanka Chopra’s singing career just scaled new heights. Priyanka’s debut single, ‘In My City’ featuring Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas fame, has been nominated at the World Music Awards.
The beautiful star of films like ‘Agneepath’ and ‘Don 2’, and most recently critically acclaimed for Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ has been nominated in three categories- Best Debut, Best Song and Best Video at the WMA’s.
Priyanka’s official spokesperson has confirmed this spectacular news. This means that our very own Bollywood diva is now in the big league, right up there with music sensations and international music industry giants like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Lady GaGa.
Says a source close to the actress, “Her music has been liked a lot in the west. She has been nominated under three categories-Best Debut, Best Song and Best Video. Her collaboration with Will.i.am for ‘In my city’ has been received well.”
Further, the very same source added that Priyanka is positively delighted with this news, “It’s a matter of pride for an Indian artiste to be recognized and nominated alongside some of the best names in the world. Priyanka is absolutely delighted.”
Priyanka has been steadily climbing up the ladder to the coveted numero uno position in Bollywood, but she now has what other Bollywood actresses do not: a successful international music career.
Her solo ‘In My City’ has gone platinum since its release a few months ago, and her acting career in Indian films shows no sign of faltering either. Her last film, ‘Barfi!’ about the love story of a mute boy and an autistic girl has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. And Priyanka has several big ticket films in her kitty, including the remake of ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Krrish 3’ and ‘Gunday’. 2013 sure promises to be another rocking year for Ms. Chopra!
