In recent times, as actors undergo strenuous workshops to get under the skin of their characters, R.Madhavan who reprises his role as the lovable, straight-thinker Manu chose to go about his performance in quite a different manner.
The actor’s only homework was to do no homework and went about his performance spontaneously, a decision that at first surprised director Aanand L Rai but later worked out in the favor of the film –
Says Maddy, “Tanu Weds Manu Returns is one of my toughest roles so far considering the approach was very different. Aanand L Rai told me that the film would be shot sequentially. I told him not to tell me what was to come next in the screenplay and did every scene as it evolved so I would not be in control and also because I trust Anand implicitly. I wanted it to be organic and I do hope its worked out for us and added a new dimension to Manu‘s character.”
If that wasn’t all, while actors prefer to stay comfortably in plush hotels while shooting for films, Madhavan insisted on staying with the crew and other character actors – Their fun interactions off screen, reflected in their chemistry onscreen. ” I had a great time staying with the crew. Aanand, Deepak (Dobriyal) and I had a lot of fun and shared ample laughs together. The fact that we bonded has translated into our chemistry on-screen”.
Manu (R.Madhavan) has Jimmy Sheirgill and Deepak Dobriyal as a troublemaker for him in the film. Kangana Ranaut (Tanu) plays two different avatars one of tom boy and another of desi girl. Actor R Madhavan plays an innocent character in the movie.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns, directed by Aanand L Rai, will release on May 22. The film features R.Madhvan and Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.
