Box Office: Audience votes in favour of Raajneeti

MUMBAI: The audience has voted in favour of Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti as the movie saw superb opening day collections across India.

The movie did net collections of approximately Rs 105 million (Rs 10.50 crores) on Friday and is now the second highest opening day collections for a movie after 3 Idiots (Rs 130 million). A fortnight ago, Kites sat on this spot with opening day net collections of Rs 104 million (Rs 10.40 crore). Pertinent to note here is that Kites’ release was far bigger in terms of prints and screen count as compared to Raajneeti.

As per information available with Businessofcinema.com, Raajneeti received a boost on Saturday at the box office due to the strong word of mouth.

As was reported earlier by Businessofcinema.com, in its opening weekend (including paid previews) the Hrithik Roshan starrer Kites saw net collections of Rs 305 million (Rs 30.50 crore) in India. However, the movie failed to live up to its hype at the box office and crashed in the week following its release.

Raajneeti, on the other hand, has great word of mouth and has been received well across multiplexes and single screens in most territories. Going by the initial response, the movie is on its way to have a great run at the box office.
